For LGBTQ+ people, life before the return of the Taliban was showing signs of improvement. In a strict religious society, they have experienced a daily battle of prejudice and violence, however, during the last few years, green shoots of organised queer human rights voices were starting to be heard and felt. But when the Taliban retook control in 2021 all that progress collapsed, and LGBTQ+ people were forced to go back into hiding. Now they are being horrifically persecuted and with no access to legal or medical services or jobs. Without access to these services or the chance to exist without fear of violence, their fractured lives are crumbling.  Using UGC smuggled out of Afghanistan mixed with archive and animation, Gay Under the Taliban tells their story. ## Gallery ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-25.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-16.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-26.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-22.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-02.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-21.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-29.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-06.jpg) ![gallery image 1](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/gallery/Gay%20Under%20the%20Taliban/gay-under-the-taliban-03.jpg) ## Videos ![Gay Under The Taliban](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/posters/unscripted/gay-under-the-taliban-film.jpg) Release Date: 17 Oct '22 on Channel 4 Length: 34' Awards: SEMI-FINALIST ‘Best Animation Documentary’ New York Animation Film Awards ## Similar films [![Freddie Mercury: The Final Act](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/covers/freddie.jpg)](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/freddie-mercury-the-final-act) [Freddie Mercury: The Final Act](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/freddie-mercury-the-final-act) [Read more](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/freddie-mercury-the-final-act) [![The Secret of Me](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/covers/IMG_2223.jpg)](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/the-secret-of-me) [The Secret of Me](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/the-secret-of-me) [Read more](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/the-secret-of-me) [![The Clinic](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/covers/the-clinic-tavistock-hero-1.jpg)](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/the-clinic) [The Clinic](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/the-clinic) [Read more](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/the-clinic) [![Becoming Frida Kahlo](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/covers/file-20230308-1070-7l4wg6.avif)](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/becoming-frida-kahlo) [Becoming Frida Kahlo](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/becoming-frida-kahlo) [Read more](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/films/becoming-frida-kahlo) ###### SEARCH ###### FOLLOW [![x](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/socials/x.svg)](https://x.com/RoganProduction) [![facebook](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/socials/facebook.svg)](https://www.facebook.com/RoganProductions/) [![instagram](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/socials/instagram.svg)](https://www.instagram.com/roganproduction) [![vimeo](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/socials/vimeo.svg)](https://vimeo.com/roganproductions) [![in](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/socials/in.svg)](https://www.linkedin.com/company/rogan-productions) [![youtube](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/socials/youtube.svg)](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClOwgTv7NpU1wJh9gmIyv5w) [![tiktok](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/hubfs/assets-2026/socials/tiktok.svg)](https://www.tiktok.com/@roganproductions) ###### SUBSCRIBE ### New films, screenings and stories straight to your inbox. © 2026 Rogan Productions Limited | [Privacy Policy](https://www.roganproductions.co.uk/privacy) | Company Registration No. 08385838
