James Rogan

Co-CEO

James Rogan is a BAFTA-nominated film director, producer and screenwriter, with a track record of crafting multi-award-winning series and feature documentaries that have been shown around the world. Over the past year James has been directing a soon-to-be-announced three-part documentary series alongside Academy Award-winner Steve McQueen, as well as producing two films, BLACK POWER: A BRITISH STORY OF RESISTANCE and SUBNORMAL, to sit alongside McQueen’s Small Axe series of films.

James has also recently directed 4 of the 8 episodes of the ground-breaking music series 1971: THE YEAR THAT MUSIC CHANGED EVERYTHING, working with James Gay-Rees and Asif Kapadia (the Academy Award-winning team behind Amy and Senna).

James is probably best known for directing STEPHEN: THE MURDER THAT CHANGED A NATION for BBC1. The landmark series picked up multiple awards, including a BAFTA and an RTS nomination for best director and two Grierson awards for Best Historical Documentary and Best Documentary Series.

Among his other directing credits are: Rose d’Or nominated feature documentary MONTY PYTHON: THE MEANING OF LIVE and RTS-nominated arts documentary ONE NIGHT IN 2012. He also has directed three feature documentaries for the Academy Award-winning BBC Storyville strand: BLOG WARS, THE TROUBLE WITH PIRATES and AMNESTY: WHEN THEY ARE ALL FREE.

As the creative director and executive producer at Rogan Productions, James has produced many groundbreaking films including Realscreen award-winner PUTIN: A RUSSIAN SPY STORY for Channel 4 in the UK; the double-Grierson award-winning STABBED: BRITAIN’S KNIFE CRIME CRISIS for BBC1; DARK SECRETS OF A TRILLION DOLLAR ISLAND: GARENNE for BBC Storyville and ZDF/ARTE; THE CONFESSION for BBC Storyville, BFI, and Creative England.

He established Rogan Productions in 2013 to make high-quality films across a range of platforms, from cinema to online, from broadcast to brands. Since then the company has grown rapidly making dozens of films for broadcasters, agencies and brands.

He runs the company with his wife Soleta Rogan, the Managing Director.

Mark Hedgecoe

Head of Rogan Scotland

Mark has been based in Glasgow for the past decade. He led Pacific Quay Productions from when BBC Studios started and prior to that, ran the BBC’s Arts production team across the UK and was Deputy Head of BBC Science production. Mark has worked in factual programming for over 25 years and has won numerous awards across multiple genres.  In recent years his film The Challenger, about Richard Feynman’s investigation into the space shuttle disaster was awarded the RTS for Best Single Drama; the series Operation Iceberg received the RTS for Best Science Programme, BAFTA Scotland for Best Factual Programme and a Jackson Hole award; and his film The Girl Who Talked To Dolphins was shortlisted for the RTS, Grierson and BAFTA Scotland. 

Nicholas Franklin

Head of Production

Nicholas Franklin is Head of Production at Rogan Productions. 

Reporting to Managing Director Soleta Rogan and Creative Director James Rogan, Nicholas joined the team from Passion Pictures in Autumn 2022 and is an experienced Head of Production with a career spanning 18 years, he is committed to delivering ambitious and complex commissions at an incredibly exciting time for Rogan Productions. On joining Rogan Nick said “I have always been impressed by the breadth and quality of the output at Rogan Productions. I am looking forward to joining the teams in London and Glasgow and being a key part in the next stage of the company’s growth and development.”

Nick’s output ranges from award-winning documentaries to drama and current affairs. His credits include renowned films and series including David Harewood: Psychosis and Me (BBC2), Catching Killers (Netflix), Charlie Hebdo: Three Days That Shook Paris (Channel4/Smithsonian), Stolen Daughters: Kidnapped by Boko Haram (HBO, BBC, Arte) and Locked Up Abroad (NatGeo).

Jenny Popplewell

Head of Factual, London

Reporting to Creative Director James Rogan and working alongside Head of Rogan Scotland Mark Hedgecoe and Head of Production, Nicholas Franklin, Popplewell will lead the development and delivery of “bold, human-led stories that challenge perspectives and ignite conversation.”

Popplewell’s recent directing credits include global Netflix hits A Deadly American Marriage and What Jennifer Did.  She also directed the BAFTA nominated American Murder: The Family Next Door which became the platform’s most-watched documentary at the time of release.  Her acclaimed BBC documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 inspired the award-winning West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Previously, as Head of Popular Factual at KnickerbockerGlory, she played a key role in shaping the company’s creative direction and overseeing a wide slate of successful productions.

Merle Currie

Head of Unscripted Development

Prior to joining Rogan, Merle held executive producer positions across development and production at Firecrest Films and Label1. She developed and produced key premium unscripted Label1 titles including the award-winning series Hospital for BBC Two, Worlds Collide: The Manchester Bombing for ITV, Monkman and Seagull’s Genius Guide to Britain for BBC Two, Sixteen: Class of 2021 for C4 and Soldier: Made in Yorkshire for BBC One.
Across her career to date, Merle has worked in development and production at some of the industry’s leading indies including Minnow Films and The Garden. Her other credits as a producer include ‘Stacey Dooley Investigates’, the award winning Cancer Research ‘Right Now’ advertising campaign, ‘The Unbreakables: Life and Love on Disability Campus’ and ‘Extreme OCD Camp’ for BBC Three.

Anna Burns

Head of Scripted Development

Anna Burns is a British television and film development executive and producer known for her work in high-end scripted drama. In 2025, she joined Rogan Productions as Head of Scripted Development, leading the company’s first major expansion into drama production after more than a decade of success in factual and documentary programming.

Before joining Rogan Productions, Burns worked at Buccaneer Media, where she served as Executive Producer on a number of acclaimed television dramas, including the thriller In Flight, the period drama The Doll Factory, and the crime drama Whitstable Pearl. Her work helped establish her reputation for developing ambitious, character-driven stories across a range of genres.

Earlier in her career, Burns was a Creative Executive at Blueprint Pictures, one of the UK’s leading film production companies. During her tenure, she worked on notable feature films, including Seven Psychopaths and The Riot Club, gaining experience in film development and production alongside some of the industry’s most respected creative talent.

Recognised for her strong editorial instincts and broad creative range, Anna Burns has expertise spanning drama development, production, and strategic content leadership.

Paula Stanbridge-Faircloth

Head of Marketing

Alice Lee

Senior Development Executive

 Alice joined Rogan in 2024 and works across our unscripted development slate.  She has a track record in winning ambitious premium factual, observational docs and specialist factual programming for the major streamers and broadcasters including Netflix, Nat Geo, Sky, BBC, C4 and ITV.    With over ten years’ experience in the industry, she’s worked at award-winning indies including 72 Films and Lambent Productions in both development and production. Alice's strengths lie in developing confident editorial takes on ideas, with new creative approaches to storytelling and innovating with form.  Her recent work at Rogan includes developing Boombox: Beats and Betrayal for HBO Max, Free Nelson Mandela for Channel 4, Backlash: The Murder of George Floyd for BBC Two and Bowie: The Final Act for Channel 4.

Hassan Patel

Senior Production Accountant

Hassan is a Senior Production Accountant with over a decade of experience across both corporate and television production environments. He has worked on a range of high-profile series for Channel 4 and Netflix, including Junior Bake Off, The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C, The Piano, Our Welsh Chapel Dream, The Incredibly Talented Lucy and The Ripper.

At Rogan Productions, Hassan ensures strong financial oversight across every stage of the production cycle. His expertise spans cost control, detailed forecasting and cashflow management, helping productions remain financially robust from development through to delivery.

In addition, he oversees group company finances, maintaining rigorous financial governance and supporting the organisation’s continued growth and stability.

Lena Kilner

Researcher

Lena joined Rogan as Executive Assistant in 2023. Alongside managing the London office and supporting the Senior Team, she has been across the production slate; gaining credits for programmes including Defiance: Fighting the Far Right and ABBA: Against the Odds. She is thrilled to now be joining the Development team as Researcher, and looks forward to gaining further editorial and production experience.

Sian Haddow

Project Coordinator, Rogan Scotland

Sian is a South African ex-pat who joined the Rogan Productions Glasgow office in 2022, realising her childhood dream to work within the film and TV industry in production management, to which she brings a strong creative spirit and a highly organised personality.

Sian began her career as a graphic designer, but she soon realised she had a flair for project management. In addition to having a qualification as a graphic designer, Sian has qualifications in event management, public relations and has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing management, with over 20 years’ focus on consumer buyer and behaviour.

Sian is a self-taught fine artist, avid animal lover and green planet activist who likes to keep busy and enjoys the challenge of working within the film and TV industry.

Holly Hillyard

Marketing Executive

Holly joined Rogan Productions as a Marketing Executive in 2024. Holly started her career in production before relocating to LA where she worked in Event Management for 10 years.

Kirsty Miller

Development Executive

Kirsty is a Development Executive with over 10 years’ experience in television and a strong track record of taking ideas from first spark through to commission. Over her career she has developed a wide range of programmes for the BBC, Channel 4 and Discovery, from returnable formats and observational documentaries to lifestyle shows. Since joining Rogan Scotland in 2025, her remit has expanded to feature documentaries, propulsive box sets and current affairs films. Her development credits include award-nominated and RTS-shortlisted programmes, alongside production experience in casting.

Kirsty is drawn to big stories with a strong human hook, and has a knack for finding the unexpected angle, emotional resonance or spark of joy that makes an idea stand out. She is always looking for distinctive ways to connect with audiences, whether that’s through a bold format or an ambitious piece of factual storytelling. Based at Rogan Scotland, she is excited to build on its reputation for making films with a global outlook, while also seeking out stories rooted in Scotland that can resonate far beyond it.
